The ‘green’ fuel solution for open fires and stoves
March 29, 2014There is something primal and comforting about a fire. There is the sense of security which dates back to our earliest tribal ancestors, and the simple fascination with flickering flames.
However, burning tree branches, or fossil fuels such as coal, oil or gas, is extremely damaging to the environment.
There is a better alternative.
A Victorian timber frame and truss plant is now producing biomass fuel branded “Bio Briquettes”. The truss manufacturing process shreds timber offcuts, mixes these with sawdust and compacts the material under high pressure.
During this process, lignin, a natural substance found in wood, acts as an organic binding agent, removing the need for any artificial glue. Free from any harmful additives or chemicals, Bio Briquettes offer a natural substitute for firewood, coal, charcoal and other everyday fuels.
Using the latest European recycling technology, Bio Briquettes are made entirely from organic wood waste, and are an alternative source of renewable energy. By recycling what would otherwise be considered rubbish and sent to landfill, Bio Briquettes help to save our forests from unnecessary felling and produce fewer carbon emissions.
Since Bio Briquettes are created under extreme pressure, the briquettes are denser, harder and more compact, delivering a much longer and concentrated burn time, leaving far less ash for disposal. The moisture content in Bio Briquettes is very low, so Bio Briquettes have a very high British thermal unit (BTU) value, providing up to three times more heat than other burning products on the market.
Bio Briquettes offer a range of benefits in comparison with other fuels:
- inexpensive
- lengthy shelf-life
- longer, more efficient burning
- reduced fossil fuel consumption
- reduced greenhouse gas production
Retailers of stoves designed for this fuel, are selling biomass briquettes sourced from outside of Australia, which is more expensive and far less sustainable than local product, as shipping adds considerably to the carbon footprint. To find where to buy Bio Briquettes, visit Bio-Briquettes.com.au

About BB Truss
The BB Truss & Timber 6,000m2 factory is exclusively equipped with Multinail machinery and designs and manufactures roof trusses, wall frames and floor trusses for residential construction.
In producing carbon-storing timber frames and trusses, BB Truss offers a far more sustainable alternative to concrete and metal in home construction. The company has always been driven by an innovative vision, to increase efficiency by practices, procedures and computer controlled equipment.
In order to further reduce the volume and maximise the value of timber by-product, the production of organic Bio Briquettes is the natural solution to minimising timber waste. BB Truss is the first (and to date, only) frame and truss business in Australia to install the cutting-edge European recycling technology used to manufacture Bio Briquettes.
This constant focus on ensuring greater sustainability, has gained BB Truss recognition in the industry. For contributing to the sustainability of the city of Bendigo, the state of Victoria and the planet, BB Truss was gratified to receive a 2013 Community Sustainability Awards special commendation. The environmental award was presented by The Bendigo Sustainability Group.
After delivering sophisticated solutions for many years to Multinail (one of only three global truss equipment manufacturers), Digital Tsunami designed and developed a contemporary website for BB Truss in 2012. BB Truss & Timber is the largest Multinail equipped plant in Australia.
In 2012/13 and previously for three consecutive years (2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10), BB Truss achieved the impressive distinction of being named:
- Australia’s Best Truss Plant
- Victoria’s Best Truss Plant
- Victoria’s Best Large Truss Plant
From Our Clients
Once again, thanks for your promptness and partnership.
The current challenge of my job at Abbott is one of the greatest I've faced in 25 years of IT career. It's reassuring to know I can count on people like you when things go wrong.
