Keppel Prince turns night into day
September 19, 2013Keppel Prince Engineering has manufactured four massive light towers for Simonds Stadium in Geelong, Victoria.
Known for decades as Kardinia Park, the ground is only one of three in Victoria able to host an AFL Grand Final. The ground has been the home of the Geelong Football Club, “The Mighty Cats”, since 1941. Over recent years, several major construction projects have provided necessary facility upgrades for the immensely popular sports ground.
Each lighting tower is 73 metres tall and weighs 158 tonnes, including 105 lights per platform. A video of a lighting tower installation demonstrates the scale of these towers, which turn night into day on the field. Keppel Prince is proud to have manufactured the towers with 100% Australian steel plate.
The visually distinctive shape of the towers complements the contemporary Premiership Stand, with its triangular faceted roof, and the prominent ‘Cat Claw’ arcs above the Reg Hickey Stand. These three elements are so identifiable, that they were integrated into the Simonds Stadium logo.
Upon completion in May 2013, Kane Constructions, responsible for design and construction of a new 9,000 seat grandstand and installation of the lights, said of Keppel Prince, “The level of professionalism was very much appreciated. You should be proud of your skills, contribution and the result.”
Digital Tsunami developed the Keppel Prince website in 2008 and produced a video of a wind tower construction in rural Victoria.
The production of visual assets for the building, construction and engineering sector is a particular strength of Digital Tsunami. Since last century, the company has produced websites, photography and video for clients responsible for building suburbs, railway lines, superhighways and airports.
